Dorothy’s Bio
Inspiration exists in a form many times not of my choosing, rather as a response to the wonder of something I have seen or experienced. The idea then pulls and compels me to movement. As a result my three-dimensional art and also my paintings are intuitive responses to instances of time and place. They are representations of joy and grief, subtle and bold interpretations of what I have seen and experienced. I work at putting all of this into an effort of creation.
My Bachelor’s Degree is in Fine Arts from Lourdes College, Sylvania, Ohio. Then I studied ceramics and sculpture with Joe Ann Cousino for 12 years along with pursuing other art workshops. I studied the Impressionistic style of oil painting with Sammy Britt in Louisiana who studied with Henry Henche from the Cape Cod School of Art.
I have been a member of Athena Art Society since 1988 and was President in 1995/1996. I have exhibited with Athena Art Society, Bedford Library Art for the Future, Toledo Artist Club, Spectrum, and various other art show in the area and in Michigan. I have won awards amoung these shows. One of my sculptures is in The Bedford Library as a purchase award called “Free to Be”.
From my Gateway Studio I have been teaching Hand Building Clay techniques, and also classes in Art Therapy.
I want my art to speak to people, to touch their souls, to give new insight, heighten their imagination, and really let them appreciate that we live in a magnificent universe. There is just so much to see, experience and give back.
