Ellen’s Bio
Ellen Loeffler-Kalinoski’s love of art and design began early, drawing at home with her mother, then at the Saturday morning art classes at the Museum. Her passion for photography grew throughout high school and college. After graduating with a BFA in graphic design from the University of Dayton and studying abroad, she returned to the Toledo area, working as an art director and photographer for advertising agencies and a local hospital. While raising three daughters with her husband, she launched her studio, Windows to the World. Currently she varies her work photographing seniors, families, and events, teaching photography at St. Ursula Academy, as well as painting in watercolor and gouache. She exhibits her fine art in regional shows and galleries, and her work hangs in many corporate and private collections. In 2023 Ellen was the Artist in Residence at Owens Community College. Certain prints are framed in antique, weathered window frames to enhance the natural mood of the image.
Artist Statement
“I love light…being in it, photographing and painting it, and the incredible ways natural light transforms our world and the people and scenes touched by it. In the compositions, you can see the influence of my design background and the importance of light and shadow. While studying abroad in Italy, I fell in love with architectural details, which I combine with organic elements to create a pleasing juxtaposition of man and nature, especially in the many scenes of windows and doorways. I am also emotionally drawn to water and the atmospheric light that affects it. The images evoke emotion and nostalgia –often soft and dreamlike- transporting the viewer to another place and time.”
