Ellen’s Bio
Ellen Loeffler-Kalinoski’s love of art and design was fostered by the Saturday morning program at the Toledo Museum of Art and her parents. Her passion for photography also began early, and she became inseparable from her camera. After graduating with a BFA from the University of Dayton and studying abroad, she returned to the Toledo area, raising three daughters with her husband, and launching her studio, Windows to the World. She worked as an art director and photographer for advertising agencies and a local hospital, and currently spends her time photographing seniors, families, and events through her studio and teaching photography at St. Ursula Academy. She exhibits her fine art images in regional shows and galleries, and her work hangs in corporate and private collections. Ellen enjoyed her Artist Residency at Owens Community College in 2023.
“I love light…being in it, photographing and painting it, and the incredible ways natural light transforms our world and the people and scenes touched by it. In the compositions, you can see the influence of my design background and the importance of light and shadow. While studying abroad in Italy, I fell in love with architectural details, which I combine with natural/organic elements to create a pleasing juxtaposition of man and nature, especially in the many views of windows and doorways.I am also emotionally drawn to water and the atmospheric light that affects it. Currently I find my favorite compositions have elements of symmetry, stillness and calm. The images evoke emotion and nostalgia –often soft and dreamlike- transporting the viewer to another place and time. Certain prints are framed in antique, weathered window frames to enhance the rustic, natural mood of the image.”
