Jan’s Bio
Jan studied fine art at The University of Toledo with a focus in the media of pencil and watercolor. After graduation, she did some free-lance illustration; and then became a graphic designer for the university winning some awards for her designs. Her primary love was book art, illustration, and designing books. This included making sketchbooks in a course at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
She later returned to the fine arts of painting and drawing, with some pen and ink notecards done of Toledo, Ohio’s Metroparks, sold in local establishments. Jan painted for 15 years with a local group of plein-aire painters spring through fall. Her paintings have been exhibited with the Athena Art Society, Michigan’s Bedford Library Arts for the Future exhibits, Toledo Artists’ Club, Toledo Metroparks, and Toledo Women’s Art League, winning some awards among these shows. She is currently active in Athena Art Society and Toledo Women’s Art League, and has been president of both organizations. Nature, traveling, and people, have been her muses. One of the most recent venues to exhibit her work has been the River Raisin National Battlefield Park, where a series of 5 annual art exhibits has been celebrating Michigan’s natural and historical subject matter. Jan is presently looking forward to channeling her art into some new directions and challenges throughout this coming year.
