As a life-long resident of Toledo, Ohio, my childhood was blessed with the opportunity to take part in the Saturday art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. This fostered self-confidence and solidified my love for the arts.
I earned a bachelor and master’s degrees in art education at Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo, respectively. Over twenty summers were spent doing graduate work at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where I immersed myself in the creation of fiber arts and ceramics.
During my teaching career of 37 years, my ceramic students had their work published in the national Davis textbook, Experience Clay, for high school students. I also chaired the district program for 25 years and published in School Arts magazine.
My earlier work in fiber arts (silk painting, quilting, batik, and direct dye techniques) has been the foundation of my ceramic work. Images are drawn, carved, screened or stamped onto the clay surface, backed by applied layers of color and pattern using underglazes, stains and glazes. I use color as a strong component to create design and images on the clay surface.
My work has been exhibited in the annual Toledo Area Artists Exhibition, the Findlay Art League 3-D Show, the Northwest Ohio Community Art Exhibitions, and several juried and non-juried Athena shows.
