Athena 115—Annual Juried Exhibition of 2018
This year Athena Art Society is celebrating its 115th anniversary of being Ohio’s oldest women’s art organization, and one of the oldest in the country, founded in 1903. What better way to celebrate than with a beautiful and diverse exhibit of 54 works of art by 36 of its members. The exhibit is being hosted by 20 North Gallery in downtown Toledo, Ohio and runs from October 7 through December 29, 2018.
The Winners
The award winners, shown above, are: Susan Ritter, Best of Show, oil; Ellen Loeffler-Kalinoski, 1st place, photography; Lanna Pendleton-Hall, 2nd place, oil on linen; Liga Daiga, 3rd place, watercolor; Sally Hobbib Rumman, Honorable Mention, jewelry; Carol Sicha, Honorable Mention, acrylic. New this year for Athena and for the gallery is a purchase award, which Martha Osnowitz received for her ceramic, Spirit of Life. The gallery’s commission from this purchase is given back to Athena for their scholarship fund. Every artist in the show is represented above in the banner.
The Jurors
Jurors for Athena 115 are 20 North Gallery owner Eric Hillenbrand and art director Condessa Croninger. Founded in 1993, 20 North Gallery is the oldest independent art gallery in the city of Toledo. Located in the historic downtown Warehouse District, 20 North Gallery is committed to providing emerging and established fine artists with a commercial venue to display and sell their work, bringing art and arts experiences to the greater Toledo community—and assisting collectors in building both corporate and private collections. 20 North Gallery represents both traditional and contemporary artists working in a variety of media and offers patrons residential and office consultations for art placement and installation.
The Gallery
In 2003, 20 North Gallery Art Director Emerita and lifetime honorary member of Athena Peggy Grant proudly hosted the Athena Art Society’s centennial exhibition, Women of Valor, at the gallery. Athena Art Society is honored to have their Annual Juried Exhibition hosted at the same gallery to celebrate 115 years of talent and promotion of the arts. The gallery has published a catalogue of this exhibit, displaying each woman’s art in the show, accompanied by a short bio and artist’s statement. The catalogue can be viewed on the gallery’s website: 20northgallery.com under Athena 115. There are a limited number of copies available for purchase by contacting the gallery at info@20northgallery.com.
