Athena’s 2014 Annual Juried Exhibition
Athena Art Society is currently holding their 2014 Juried Exhibition at American Gallery in Sylvania, Ohio. The show is up and running already and will go until December 2. Thirty-nine members are exhibited in the show, with a total of 84 pieces. Represented in the banner above are 32 members with one of their pieces shown. Congratulations to our award winners who are shown first in the banner. They are: Betty Jean Jacobson, Best of Show, mixed media; Jane Archambeau, 1st place, ceramic; Ann Hymel, 2nd place, fused glass; Lanna Pendleton Hall, 3rd place, oil on linen; Patsy Camp, Honorable Mention, acrylic; Kay Weprin, Honorable Mention, oil pastel. The juror was painter, Dani Fuller, the current manager of the gallery.
American Gallery has been a beloved fixture in the Sylvania community, owned and run for 19 years by Toni Andrews who recently retired from the business (although she still can be seen helping out in the transition). The current owner is River Centre Foundation, a nonprofit organization. David Garner is the president who owns and administrates River Centre Clinic for eating disorders, also in Sylvania. Dani Fuller, the show’s juror, manages the gallery, and is also the creative art director of the foundation’s Healing Arts Program. Creating art is considered a therapeutic activity for people with the emotional issues of eating disorders. The gallery will be an outgrowth of those artistic activities and efforts. River Centre will continue serving the present American Gallery customers, but will slowly develop and add their own style.
