Ann's Bio
My mother was raised in the Great Depression of the 1930s. Resources were not available for anything but the most necessary items. Mom learned that if someone else could create something, so could she. I grew up with this attitude and training. This philosophy led me as a young adult to continually explore many types of practical arts and crafts including clothing design and construction, upholstery and drapery making, decorative stitching, embroidery, landscape design, and mural painting.
As a mature adult, I travelled to Europe and saw the 100th anniversary exhibit of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings and drawings. I was bowled over by them and vowed to focus my energy on the ‘finer’ art of painting. While then completing an art degree, I explored other forms of art such as ceramics, color theory, 2 and 3 D design, photography, jewelry making, and drawing. Ceramics especially intrigued me with its myriad facets, technical requirements and laborious physical process. Six years later I received my BFA from Adrian College, Michigan. Then I founded my business: Sisters Pottery Studio in Bryan, Ohio.
Sisters Pottery Studio is a fully operational ceramics studio where I create functional pieces, as well as explore totally whimsical and abstract works. I give lessons to those who are passionate about learning ceramics. My studio has an attached gallery for showcasing my work and is open by request. In recent years, I have traveled to Hilton Head Island (SC), Annapolis (MD), Chicago (IL), Adrian (MI), Toledo (OH), and Ft. Wayne (IN) to sell my work in juried shows. Currently, I am represented by the Coyote Woman Art Gallery in Harbor Springs (MI), the Hudson Gallery in Sylvania (OH), and the Marco Island Center for the Arts Gallery in Marco Island (FL).
My philosophy, learned from childhood, is to keep on creating and never give up.
